Review : JULEP Maven Box

I love coming home to a package at my door! Monthly subscriptions for boxes of jewelry and cosmetics are a fun way to try new products. JULEP is a nail polish brand that offers a monthly subscription of different shades each month that match your style. I did some research and liked that their products are “4-free” and do not contain the toxic chemicals: formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, toluene, or DBP. With "The First Maven Box Free" promotion, I answered a few personal style questions and chose the It Girl box. After 11 days, I received my first box. The polishes were packed in white boxes that were placed in the cutest and crinkly shredded paper.

September's It Girl Box:

  • Bette - electric neon purple creme
  • Mila - charcoal, multi-colored glitter
  • Isla - soft milky-white metallic

Review:

The bottles are thin, and each contain 8 mL of polish. OPI nail polishes contain 15 mL and are now free of DBP, toluene, and formaldehyde for 6/10 the price. The colors are very pigmented and long-wearing. Bette is a gorgeous neon violet. Although it has a smooth consistency, it is very watery, which takes it a while to dry and four coats to become opaque. I had to keep my fingers leveled for it to dry evenly. I love glitter, and Mila does not disappoint. I used it as a top coat, and it is filled with metallic gold, purple, and green specks. It applied very easily and full of glitter. Although I love the name, I was not too fond of Isla's pearly milky-white color nor the application of three coats to become opaque.

Using Mila, I wanted to show off my favorite fall colors. :)

Fave Fall Colors
Fave Fall Colors

  2. OPI I Brake for Manicures eggplant plum - $8.00
  3. OPI French Quarter for your Thoughts neutral gray - $8.00
  4. JULEP Mila charcoal, multi-colored glitter - $14.00
  5. Illamasqua Glitterati dark raspberry glitter - $19.00

Verdict:

My first Maven Box was free and only $3.99 for shipping. I love that the company donates a portion of their sales to a different charity each month, and that the products are "4-free". Like JewelMint, you can skip a month, if there are not any products you like. Julep's colors are beautiful, bold, and long-lasting. I will not pay $20 every month for a box of 2-3 nail polishes, if the quality is like Bette or Isla, unless I am eager to try a month's shades.

Happy Fall! :)
